A man had his arm and hand bitten in a terrifying crocodile attack while on a river cruise. A crocodile has bitten a man believed to be up to four meters long while on a cruise in the Northern Territory.

St John Ambulance received a call for help just after 2 pm on Monday after the 60-year-old sustained injuries to his arm and hand. The incident happened while on the tourist cruise along the Adelaide River.

Bystanders provided the man first aid at the scene before he was taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital. An NT WorkSafe inspector was also contacted about the incident by a “concerned” public member.

In a statement, it said inquiries were underway to verify the information provided in the call. “NT WorkSafe reminds all Territory businesses that it is a requirement to notify us of any serious injuries that occur in the workplace,” WorkSafe said.

“While there are no specific regulations relating to crocodiles, crocodiles are an apex predator and are a well-known hazard in the Top End for all businesses operating in their habitat.

“All businesses operating in crocodile habitats must minimize, or if possible eliminate, the risk of injury from crocodiles.” Notifications can be made to NT WorkSafe on 1800 019 115.
